All these Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they are moist and chewy for days, they are unmistakably banana-y.

Banana can be one of these flavors that could get lost once you bake with this. It can be quite delicate flavor. It always bums me out when that occurs, cause I really like the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

When great brewed banana treats come together, we move a little mad for them.

These cookies make the list of banana items to go mad for. With no doubt.

And they're so moistthey melt in your mouth. Additionally, with both oats and banana inside them, they're basically healthy, right? And ideal for breakfast!

Making them is equally as simple as eating them.

You've got the typical suspects -- butter, brown sugar, white sugar, an egg, vanilla and mashed bananas. You start by mixing all of those lovely components together.

I must warn you. The odor of the mixture -- with the banana -- is equally intoxicating. The hubs was at the kitchen which makes the dough with me (we made a bargain that included him baking with me) and we both had to work hard not to place our faces, or even a straw, right in to it.

You then add all the dry ingredients (which means you only use one bowl yay!) And combine it all together!

To bake them, spoon out about a tablespoon of bread and produce a thick disk, instead of a ball. They spread a bit after baking, so don't place them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes for a fine, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

One other thing I love about this recipe is where it came out.

My grandma (my father's mom) passed away in 2008. Once I started baking a lot a few years ago, my uncle gave me her cookbook that he'd had and didn't use. I've had it in my list to make a number of her desserts ever since.

It was a tradition for my grandmother to make them each Christmas! She also gave everyone a big tin of them, which has been quite an effort with 6 sons.

I know just how much of an effort it had been! My goodness. She made them using a conventional gaufrette iron that goes over an open fire. My dad and I had them around the cooker. They cook very quickly and you need to be exact. Too little time and they kind of disintegrated into iron. Too long and they burned into the iron and we needed to wash it out.

My father was minding the batter and removing the biscuits, I had been working the ironthe hubs was time things. It required many tries to get it right, but they had been so excellent! I have tried to make them on my own and it never works. I would love to share the recipe, but the dang irons are all so hard to find. And expensive. Sooner or later, I would like to just make a cookie cutter with the identical gaufrette taste.

For today though, I'm sharing these biscuits. I don't believe I ever had them made thembut they're from her novel.

It's such a fun recipe book to look through, too. There are many handwritten pages, including clippings and newspaper recipes which were taped into the book. I really like the way they used to compose recipes in the paper -- they had the individual who submitted it's title and adorable little tales. It is so fun to click resources browse through them! What a different time on the planet!

Anyways, I don't really know where this recipe originated from. The newspaper looks like it had been on a flier out of their square dance band or something (they have been big into square dancing). It's definitely from West Virginia, in which they lived.

Either way, I'm so glad to finally share a recipe from her novel with you! I made a couple of adjustments to make them thicker and more puffier and they're delicious. There'll be more to come out of her recipe book, but for the time being like the banana.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies


Yield: 34-36 COOKIES


3/4 cup salted butter, softened (I use Challenge Butter)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch



2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and blend until blended.

3. Stir in milk.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

5. Flatten dough just a little bit, into thick discs. They will disperse a bit when boiled.

6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges just start to golden.

7. Remove from oven and cool on cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes, then proceed to cooling rack to finish cooling.
